Lawns cut

A cut above the rest - Lawn Mowing
A key to successful mowing is little and often. Light cutting encourages the grass to produce extra shoots, and stunts weeds and coarse grasses.

We recommend in Summer cutting the grass at least once a week and not mowing too closely or the colour and texture of the grass will deteriorate.

We can achieve the sought-after striped effect, to really enhance the appearance of your lawn.

Lawn scarifying

Lawn Scarification
Moss and thatch forms a layer of dead material, between the grass and the soil. If this gets too thick it prevents water and nutrients from reaching the grass roots, and provides humid moist conditions for fungal lawn diseases to take hold.

Scarification helps remove heavy grass thatch from the lawn. We recommend scarification at the beginning of the growing season (Spring or early Autumn) to allow the grass to recover from this rigorous process as fast as possible.

We would be pleased to advise the best time for the scarification of your lawn if necessary. Scarification is not done routinely, but only when it is required to resolve thatching problems.

We can help achieve a neatly manicured appearance for your lawn, with crisp, clear edging separating the grass from ornamental borders.

The shape, sweep & size of your lawn can be tailored to achieve maximum impact and appearance of space dependant on the size & shape of your garden plot.

Weed & feed treatments

Weed Free - Lawn weed & feed treatments
We undertake lawn feeding, weeding and occasionally watering to maintain healthy growth. To produce a flourishing lawn you need soil which has the right balance of plant foods like nitrogen, potash, phosphorous and lime.

For small lawns we weed by hand, the most effective means of tackling the special rosette or matt kind of lawn weeds, or 'spot' treat individual weeds with a recommended weed killer.

For a larger lawn, we use a 'broad spectrum' type of weed killer which will destroy a wide range of weeds or a combined weedkiller/fertiliser mixture.

Lawns absorb nutrients through their root system and a good soil rich in nutrients is essential for a healthy lawn.

Our weed & feed treatments provide the natural nutrients needed for a healthy lawn and help to reduce or eradicate weeds.

Lawns go through a continuous cycle of growth, reproduction and dormancy and we can advise on treatment timings - around spring, early summer, late summer and pre-winter. The average lawn will benefit from an annual Spring application of fully balanced fertiliser.

Fertilisers not only encourage the grass to grow faster but also more densely. As a result, weeds and moss are crowded out and the lawn retains its good, even green colour.

This will assist the lawn in achieving its best health and appearance by using the right products at the right time in the lawn's life cycle. to achieve a healthy, attractive lawn.

New lawns

Creating a new lawn
We can advise on the most appropriate new lawn, dependant on what its main purpose will be:

• a fine ornamental lawn to look good with minimal use for sitting & walking on
• a hardier lawn to withstand a large amount of use from children or as access
• created to overcome problems such as a wet or shady areas

The use of the lawn will help to decide how to create the lawn with seed or turf:
